Building confidence on stage

At Walker’s, students learn the fundamentals of performance through acting, singing, and dancing, and apply that knowledge to mainstage productions, including plays and musicals that range in genre from classic to contemporary. The theater arts discipline builds camaraderie, confidence, professionalism, and problem-solving skills, in addition to creating connections between the students’ understanding of the theatrical work and the real world.

In all of our productions, students have the opportunity to hold leadership positions in stage management and technical theater, in addition to leading their peers as vocal and dance captains.

Each winter and spring, student productions are performed for the Walker’s and local communities on our black box and proscenium stages. Past productions include Our Town, Hairspray, Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None, and Mamma Mia! Walker’s Drama Club members engage in improvisational theater and each fall they produce a short, student-directed production for the school community.

Each year, Walker’s theater program takes students behind the scenes and into the audience of Broadway shows for an authentic experience in the world’s theatrical mecca as well as to other professional theaters in the state. Students engage in workshops with Broadway stars, including Brian O’Brien of Chicago, and post-show talkbacks with cast members of the 20th Anniversary Tour of Rent, including Cody Jenkins and Kelsee Sweigard.
